Food fest celebrates the very best fresh produce of Scotland
A best- selling food writer launched a celebration of organic food and drink.
Melissa Hemsley set the wheels in motion of Scottish Organic and Sustainable with an Eat Happy Summer Supper at Dumfries House last month
The national festival celebrated organic and sustainable produce, taking guests on a journey of healthy eating by allowing them to take part in specialised master- classes.
Melissa Hemsley, with sister Jasmine, has amassed a large following thanks to the success of a Hemsley and Hemsley cafe in London’s Selfridge’s department store as well as cookbooks containing recipes made from whole, organic, nutrient- filled ingredients.
She said: “The idea behind the Eat Happy Summer Supper was to introduce healthy, wholesome ways of cooking and eating to our guests.
“I’m proud to be an ambassador for Scottish Organic and Sustainable as the series is launched and look forward to playing a part in future events.
“I can’t wait for next year’s festival and would urge local suppliers, growers, producer and processors to get in touch with the team at Dumfries House if they’d like to be involved.”
Chris Jones, education gardener at Dumfries House, is also part of Scottish Organic and Sustainable and keen for others to get involved in next year’s festival.
She said: “How we farm affects the quality of the food we eat.
“Having the organic certificate is a way of ensuring that people know exactly how we grow our produce at the education garden and Home Farm.
“Ultimately, if you follow the standards and best practice, when you finish with your garden or farm, you should leave it in better condition for future generations.”
