Talk of the town from our social media
An MSP’s call to demolish the Station Hotel has split readers. Brian Whittle says enough is enough with the crumbling pile.
Kayzee Guess said: “So very, very sad it has been allowed to get in this state to start with.
“It was a lovely building and it should be saved and not probably destroyed and does look like it will be demolished.”
Brian Pluthero added: “Agree...bring it DOWN.”
But Ian Carlisle said: “From what I have heard it’s not “too far gone”.
“It can be restored more easily than being “razed to the ground”.
“There is a working, busy train station and passengers to consider here, too. It is also a Listed Building.”
The SNP’s decision to welcome back racism storm councillor, Julie Dettbarn, raised eyebrows among many.
Darryl McKinnon said: “Working at that level should mean zero tolerance. Shameful and disgusting behaviour from someone representing the people. You would be sacked for less working in the private sector.”
Robert Dalgleish said: “Any other party and they would have been demanding she resign.”
Steven Mackie added: “I don’t get offended by things like that.
“What annoys me though is someone lower down would be disciplined or some sort of punishment whereas she doesn’t seem to have anything like that.”
But Georgie Dawson said: “I don’t see why this councillor should have lost her job when there has been worse said by Tory and Labour councillors alike and they have kept their jobs, so the right move has been done in this instance.
“I don’t agree with what she said, but one word should not destroy a person’s career.”
And news that South Ayrshire Council is to launch another public consultation on the future of the town drew some cynicism.
Lynsey Greer said: “What SAC say and what they do are completely two different things!!
“Probably still be waiting this time next year for something to happen – it’ll still be empty at the bottom of the town.”
David Harvie added: “They want the public’s opinion but will immediately bin that opinion when a housing development company waves enough cash in their faces.”
And Aimee Hill said: “Make rents for units reasonable and tempt companies back and breathe some life back into our town!”
