He’s been putting in the graft for years

- Lochlin Highet

Gerry Cinnamon hasn’t always been packing out national venues.

Less than three years ago the Castlemilk superstar was at the old Bakers in Kilmarnock - playing in front of just 140 fans.

But his hard work has sky rocketed his success and he can now go pretty much wherever he wants.

But Bakers owner Gareth Kelly is adamant that Gerry doesn’t forget his roots.

Gareth said:“It was on October 2015 we brought him to Bakers.

“It was around about the time he did the song Hope Over Fear surrounding the independence debate.

“But it was a great night, and the 140 people there will probably know how lucky they were to be there.

“At the time I don’t think people realised where he was heading.”

He added:“A lot of people will see his rise as rapid.

“But he was putting in the graft for ages, he was hard-working and it was years before anyone paid attention to him.

“He was out in Glasgow every weekend playing at open mics, just getting himself out there.

“Running a venue like I do, you always hope to get someone on their way up like that.

“You kind of feel like you helped them on their way.

“The thing about Gerry is that he is just such a genuinely nice guy.

“He’s just a run-of-the-mill guy, with no backing so it’s amazing to see how his career has gone”
