A teenager attempted to steal large quantities of goods from Morrisons in Ayr.

At around 3pm on Saturday, September 22, it is understood that the 18-year-old had entered the supermarke­t and placed a number of goods within a trolley before trying to exit the store without paying. He was then challenged by Morrisons staff and police were contacted.

Police attended and conducted enquires before charging the youth with theft by shopliftin­g.

A report is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

In other crime news, a youth damaged a cars wing mirror in Troon.

At around 10pm on Saturday, September 22, it is understood that the 16-year-old had walked past a parked motor vehicle on Temple hill and intentiona­lly damaged the wing mirror. Police were contacted and attended where local enquires were conducted.

The accused was traced nearby and was informed that he was being reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Meanwhile, a quantity of white powder was found on a teenager.

At 11.50pm on Saturday, September 22, it is understood that the 19-year-old attempted to enter a licenced premises on Main Street, Prestwick, and at this time, police witnesses pro-actively stopped and searched the teenager where a quantity of white powder was recovered.

The youth has been reported to the procurator fiscal over the matter.
