Ramblers to pull on walking boots

-

Ayr & District Rambling Club will offer two walks this Sunday (September 30).

The first is a reasonably strenuous 8.5-mile route starting from the car park at the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall on the Queen’s Way between New Galloway and Newton Stewart (NX490720).

The walk follows the burn past some interesting sculptures on a sheep pen before picking up the forest road.

Leaving the road, the route ascends over rough ground to Millfore (656m), then continues to Drigmorn Hill before descending to the forest road and back to the car park.

The walk has a total ascent of 700m and, weather permitting, should give splendid views of Lamachan Hill, Wigtown Bay and the Isle of Man. For more details, call David Allison on 01292 739529.

The less strenuous option is an eight-mile circular walk starting in Sanquhar and joining the Southern Upland Way heading towards Wanlockhead.

After a gentle climb on tracks and fields, the route leaves the Southern Upland Way and heads south-east on a track to Brandleys Farm. From there a path leads to the Mennock Pass road and Mennock, where the walk crosses the A76 and Eliock Bridge to follow a quiet country road back to Sanquhar. For more details, contact John Walter on 01292 560341.

For both walks, please meet at the Millbrae car park in Ayr at 8.50am.
