RAF remembrance thanks
Dear Editor
On behalf of the RAF Association I wish to thank all the people who took part in the annual Battle of Britain Remembrance Service on Sunday, September 16 at Prestwick War Memorial and at the Polish Navy Memorial at the RAFA Club to commemorate those who gave their lives in that momentous battle.
Thank you to all the members of the public who came and to the Reverend George Fiddes and Father Stephen Latham for conducting the services.
Thank you to the Lord Lieutenant for Ayrshire and Arran Sheriff Iona McDonald, and Jimmy Murphy of the Pipes, the Salvation Army Band and bugler, the standard bearers and representatives of the Armed Services, Inspector John Hamilton for providing Police Scotland officers led by Sergeant Jamie Lyall, Provost Helen Moonie and a number of her councillor and community council colleagues , Bill Grant MP, John Scott MSP, and the officers and cadets from Ayr/Prestwick Squadron and Girvan Squadron ATC.
Importantly, the Polish Consul, Mrs Ilona Bajus, and a group of representatives from the large Polish communities living in Scotland attended both ceremonies to honour their brave predecessors who fought as comrades - in - arms with all their British and Commonwealth allies in that conflict.
