- Abi Smillie

It’s time for tea as a cancer charity are launching their autumn fundraising campaign - Ayrshire’s Biggest Afternoon tea.

Ayrshire Cancer support’s campaign aims to raise funds which will directly benefit people affected by cancer living and working in Ayrshire.

And the fundraiser comes complete with its own free fundraising pack, with handy hints and tips on how to hold a successful Afternoon tea event.

Laura Brown, Income and Marketing Manager of Ayrshire Cancer support, said: “Afternoon tea is about raising funds for people affected by cancer in Ayrshire.

“It’s switching coffee in the morning to tea in the afternoon – to make sure funds raised stay local.

“We have seen a 60 per cent increase in the amount of patients we are taking to lifesaving hospital appointments, and a similar rise in the amount of people we are supporting at our two centres in Ayr and Kilmarnock.

“No other cancer charity offers these services at this sort of scale.

“some of the national charities provide a telephone support line, linked to their head offices, but our clients say they prefer the personal face to face approach – and no other charity undertakes as many patient transport journeys.

“Organising an Afternoon tea at home, in the workplace, at school or in the community, helps to ensure we can continue to deliver these services to people on our doorstep.”

Afternoon tea runs until the end of October.
