Fashion fun as pupils take on programme

- Abi Smillie

Creative youngsters have completed a five- day fashion and textiles programme.

Doon Academy pupils have successfully finished their Future 30 programme at Dumfries House, who have hosted Ayrshire pupils in the course since 2014.

The crafty bunch impressed tutors during an earlier workshop and were welcomed to enrol on the Future 30 course of 30 hours of learning where pupils are challenged to make products using increasingly high levels of skill.

Keva McDonald, home economics teacher at Doon Academy, said: “Doon Academy jumped at the chance to be part of the 2018 Future 30 programme which is based on intensive skill- based learning, exploring and enhancing creativity through personalisation and choice.

“As a school dedicated to embedding the DYW principles into our curriculum, we are keen to build strong relationships between education and industry to prepare our pupils for the world of work.

“When they return to school I see a huge increase in their confidence and ability and a sense of pride with what they have achieved.

“They are able to work more independently back in school and are also able to advise and help others.

“I think that the Future 30 programme as a whole is an excellent opportunity, increasing skills, ability, enjoyment and confidence within our pupils.”
