Betty Blue Eyes set for big stage

- Stuart Wilson

APOS ( Ayrshire Philharmonic Operatic Society) are heading whole hog towards their latest production.

The group will stage ‘ Betty Blue Eyes’ at Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre in November - and plenty of laughs are assured.

Belts are being tightened and the country’s long- suffering citizens are being told by the government that there will be fair shares for all in return for surviving Austerity Britain.

It is of course 1947, and having won the war Britain seems to have lost the peace, and the country is staggering under the burden of acute rationing, unemployment and the coldest winter for decades.

The only bright spark on the horizon is the impending marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Based on the hilariously funny but sharply observed comic film ‘ A Private Function,’ ‘ Betty Blue Eyes’ centres around Betty, an adorable pig, who is being illegally reared to ensure the local dignitaries can celebrate the Royal Wedding with a lavish banquet while the local population make do with Spam.

There’s still time to join the company for this year’s show – just email apos. secretary@ gmail. com

Betty Blue Eyes opens at the Gaiety on Tuesday, November 6 at 7.30pm with performances throughout the week until Saturday, 10 November.

Tickets are now on sale from the Gaiety – log on to the gauiety. co. uk or call the box office on 01292 288235
