Inspirational talk from SFA’s Fleeting
Truly inspirational, that was my verdict on the motivational talk that I heard from Jim Fleeting of the SFA at the recent Developing the Young Workforce event hosted by Ayr Chamber of Commerce.
We are often critical of the younger generation, however, having recently visited the Riding for the Disabled Carrick Group, it was a pleasure to see so many youngsters helping out.
They are to be commended for their input, ensuring that the less able in our society experience the pleasures of horse riding.
Colin Duthie, interim chairman of the group, who is passionate about their work, advised that they are always on the lookout for volunteers of all ages, if you are interested contact Kirsty. CarrickRDA@ gmail. com.
I was pleased to accept an invitation to attend Wellington School to meet with some of the Modern Studies/
Politics pupils who had recently returned from a visit to Westminster. In discussing my role as an MP and participating in a challenging question and answer session, it became apparent many young people are actively engaging with current issues, including being concerned about protecting their environment.
I attended the Scotland Aviation Roundtable – Airport Operators Association in Edinburgh with John Scott MSP, discussions centred around the future success of Scottish Airports and the challenges they face.
Keeping to the air theme, I attended the Battle of Britain Remembrance Service in South Ayrshire, again in the company of John.
Then I went to the Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show to mark the centenary of the RAF.
My personal expenditure on travel and accommodation was well rewarded with a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness circa 20 Spitfires airborne simultaneously.
That sight almost outshone the wonderful Red Arrows Display Team whose acrobatics enthral so many visitors to the Scottish Air Show at Ayr.
Finally, my thanks to Hugh Watson for hosting a visit to his farm, Laigh Tarbeg at Ochiltree where I witnessed first- hand the application of new technologies in milk production.
It was an amazing experience and an example of the use of artificial intelligence ( robotics), with emerging mechanical engineering and IT opportunities for future generations in the agricultural industry.”
