Ice way to mark a big milestone
Diamond anniversary celebrations
Ayr Figure Skating Club ( AFSC) welcomed judges, coaches, skaters, old friends and new to mark a special milestone earlier this month.
The club celebrated their diamond anniversary on Saturday, September 8 - and honoured the late Gail McKnightFrame, the club’s Head Coach.
AFSC is very proud of its skaters over the last 60 years, with the club producing Scottish and British Champions at various levels.
And the skaters are continuing to do so, by representing the club Nationally and Internationally, and within the Nisa Development Squads.
The special anniversary remembered wonderful Head Coach Gail, who sadly passed away on Easter Monday this year, after a short but very courageous battle against cancer.
The club is very proud to continue Gail’s tradition of high quality coaching and development and the nurturing of skaters from a grass roots level to British Champions.
AFSC have gone from strength to strength over the years with a healthy growing membership in both main club and Skate UK Learn to skate classes.
While the last few years have been hugely successful for AFSC, the last few months have been the saddest ever without beloved Gail.
Vice President Gillian Templeton said: “She was a massive part of AFSC and will never be forgotten.
“We are pretty certain that there is an Ice Pad in the sky which she is fully taking advantage of.
“We were delighted that Gail’s family could join us on the night.
“Some present and past skaters of Gail’s and the current main club members skated a memorial skate in her honour.
“And in memory of Nanny Gail, her four gorgeous grandchildren, Bruno, Rosa, Mia and Enzo each released a Red Heart Balloon on the Ice Pad.
“AFSC would like to thank Helen Somerville, Honorary President AFSC for cutting the cake and to all who travelled near and far to join us.
“A great night was had by all celebrating and here’s to the next 60years!”
