Ayrshire Ladies ... on the pull for the World

It has been a fantastic year for Ayrshire Ladies Tug of War team as they are now not only Scottish Champions, British and Irish Champions but now top of the world.

The Ayrshire ladies returned from the World Tug of War Championsh­ips with Scotland’s first ever outdoor world gold medal after winning the ladies 500kg open weight class.

Eight Ayrshire ladies and coach Colin Montgomery travelled to Cape Town, South Africa to compete in the World Tug of War Championsh­ips.

On first day of the competitio­n, the team enter the 500kg open weight class.

Ayrshire topped their group only losing one end to Disa Ladies from South Africa.

They faced Sins from Switzerlan­d in the semi- final and progressed to the final with a 2- 0 win.

It was Kilroe Ladies from England that Ayrshire faced in the final and having had many previous matches with them at other competitio­ns over the years they knew this was going to be a close.

Ayrshire won the final 2- 0 but as expected was a tight contest lasting over two minutes.

Ayrshire Gold Medal Team: Julie Bannerman, Karen Gemmell, Anne McHarg, Louise Mckenzie, Louise Allan, Emma Bone, Lauren Kennedy, Lorna Bennett and coach Colin Montgomery.

While in Cape Town the ladies where having a gym session and bumped into the Glasgow Warriors rugby team.
