Ayr’s Arnold Clark Fiat garage has shut, closing its doors for the final time after eight decades of being a garage.

David Wills said: “End of an era. I have had two cars from there over the years.”

Robert Davidson said: “Sorry to see it close for good.”

Paul Tumulty said: “Not good to see places closing down.”

Binghams Convenienc­e Store have been banned from selling alcohol until New Year’s Day after having an unauthoris­ed fridge full.

Tru Dat said: “Good stuff. Licensing officer doing exactly what his job entails.

“There is no way that this decision would have been made unless all other avenues had been exhausted.

“There comes a point when they have to do what they have to do.

“Well done East Ayrshire Council.”

We told that homes are set to be built in place of shops in Ayr Town Centre.

Victoria Coughtrie said: “It won’t be a town centre if it’s full of homes instead of shops.

“You aren’t going to encourage tourism with housing.”

William Austin said: “Homes instead of shops on a shopping high street... and you know the kind of people that they will put in them.”

Rita Nicol Barr said: “It’s down to the council to be fussy, anywhere else, flats/ houses in city centres generate a lot of high income residents, thus creating good nightlife and restaurant­s.

“So long as the council don’t turn it into a dumping ground, creating a giant doss house, with the cops on speed dial.”

Ali Yogi said: “Re- develop Heathfield Retail Park and turn it into something like Queen’s Drive with a big massive cinema.”

Marion Hughes said: “It would help if people would go into shops in the town and see what’s available to buy instead of ignoring them.

“I have heard people walking past my daughter’s shop saying everything is too expensive in there without bothering to look and see the price range.

“It costs nothing to browse in the shops in town, you might get a pleasant surprise.”

Whitletts Road residents had their say on plans to cut down cherry trees on their street.

Holly Saunders said: “Why would you want to get rid of the only attractive part of Whitletts Road?”

Shaz McNelis said: “The trees have been there for years!

“They are probably older than the folk living there.

“It would be such a shame to cut them down!”

Margaret- Anne McTurk said: “I think they should be trimmed.”
