Race night was great and gave charities boost

-

What a great night Ayr Rotarians and friends had at the races recently.

The event, held at Ayr Rugby Club, had been organised to raise funds for charitable causes but mainly for Crossroads ( South Ayrshire) Care Attendant Scheme.

Forty- five members and guests attended and the amount raised was a staggering £ 1450.

The evening was expertly managed from start to finish whereas most people’s chosen horses rarely showed up at the finish.

Not that this was unexpected since they were all warned that this was not like real gambling. With gambling there is a realistic chance of winning but at a charity event such as this, winning is an unusual happening!

Undeterred however, everyone trooped up hopefully at the start of each race to place their stake with the bookies.

Thereafter each race was shown on video with the audience cheering on their horses enthusiastically until the cheers turned mostly to groans. Eight races were run and each was generously sponsored by one of the following local companies:

1. Pieroni Fishmongers 2. Carr Marketing Ltd 3. Ronaldo’s Ice Cream Parlour

4. Mainholm Nursery 5. Ma c Fa r l a n e s Restaurant

6. Horizon Hotel

7 . P h y s i o f l e x x physiotherapy

8. Harbour View Restaurant

The winner was a horse called Blossom which certainly bore fruit for the lucky owner who generously donated half of his prize money to Crossroads.

T h a n k s w e r e accorded to all who supported this big club event including Rotary members, Crossroads, Ayr Twinning, Ayr Curling Club, sponsors, friends and family but especially to Ian and Eileen Alexander whose idea it was.
