Cameras live at injury blackspot

New system will catch speeding drivers

- Pippa Smith

Ave rage speed cameras have been switched on in Polnessan in a bid to curb speeding drivers and road smashes.

The new system was installed on the A713 to encourage drivers to stay within the 40mph speed limit and reduce the number of injury collisions.

Eight injury collisons were recorded, including two serious injury and a fatality, in a three- year period.

Speed surveys had been carried out that indicated speed was a continuing concern with a high number of vehicles travelling above the speed limit.

Doon Valley councillor John Bell said: “The installation of the Polnessan Average Speed Cameras was driven by the demands of residents.

“Like the other Doon Valley councillors, I was approached by constituents concerned about the speed of vehicles passing through Polnessan.

“Personally, it was a number of years ago when I first contacted Kerr Chalmers of ARA after people came to my surgeries with their concerns. Ker r and colleagues worked hard on this and I am very grateful that the cameras are now in place.

“There is no need to speed through Polnessan, and hopefully there now won’t be as many accidents as there were previously.”

Alan Thomson, manager of West Safety Camera, said: “I am confident that this intervention will help to improve safety on this road.”
