Provost D J Boyle of Girvan on Monday hit out at the lack of interest in the burgh’s welfare and civic support shown by proprietors of hotels, boarding houses and guest houses in the town. Speaking at the Attractions Committee meeting, Provost Boyle describes the attitude of these people as a severe handicap to the town. He said: “Out of 700 questionnaires issued to the proprietors, only 100 have been returned. It is obvious the majority never troubled to make inquiries of their guests. A case of minimum service, maximum money.”

A very interesting and pleasant ceremony took place in the Public Hall, Glenbuck the other night.
Major J Rodger, of The Schoolhouse, was presented with a handsome drawing room clock to mark the appreciation felt by the village in having gained the Military Cross for devotion to duty and bravery on the battlefield.
This gallant Glenbuck doctor is in the RAMC. He was the first native of the village to gain this honour. Captain MacIntosh called upon Mr James Crosbie, one of the oldest inhabitants of the village, to make the presentation.
