Terracing Talk

-

There comes a moment in time where the momentum switch is flicked. Saturday was undoubtedly that day. To take 1000 fans to Firhill is all good and well for the backslapping it produces.

But the bigger picture of what this means for our club could, and should, push the necessary buttons.

Ian McCall has been vocal in recent weeks about the infrastructure of our club not matching the likes of Thistle, Dundee Utd and Falkirk.

And of course he’s right.

But what Saturday proved is we can punch with the best of them when mobilising travelling supports to follow this exciting team across the country.

As if to emphasise the point, Premiership Hamilton scraped barely 150 for their trip to K* lmarnock.

So let’s stop the naval gasing here. The attitude that we should forever accept our place below them in the pecking order is simply borne out of meek acceptance and lack of ambition.

Nobody is saying this will happen overnight.

But if our team played Hamilton tomorrow we’d probably be quite confident of taking them.

Just like we did Dundee.

So if we can mobilise our community, and get it turning out in consistent numbers, the sky is the limit.

As our travelling supports are proving, people will flock to follow a winning team.

And if I see one more person look at a picture of our away crowds and write “welcome addition to the Premiership,” I may weep.

Buckle in and keep the ride going.
