Blue Eyed Betty is pig- napped
Ayrshire Philharmonic Opera Society are returning to The Gaiety with their production of ‘ Betty Blue Eyes’.
The musical, originally produced in London by Cameron Mackintosh, is based on the handmade film ‘ A Private Function’.
The musical depicts Britain in 1947, staggering under the burden on rationing, unemployment and the coldest winter for decades.
The only bright spark for people is the impending Royal marriage.
When the lovable blue- eyed pig Betty is mysteriously ‘ pig- napped’, it’s up to the locals to save her.
The result is a hilariously British musical full of eccentric characters, toe- tapping contemporary score and of course, the adorable pig, Betty.
For the first time in Ayrshire Philharmonic history, their upcoming performance of
‘ Betty Blue Eyes’ at The Gaiety in November will be audio described.
This great step forward for the group is providing wider access for people who have visual impairments to enjoy their performance.
Audio description enables those visually impaired to understand what is happening on stage during parts of the performance where there is no dialogue, describing movement, facial expressions, scenery changes and more.
The audio description will be carried out by Michael Stewart, The Gaiety’s Front of House and Access Manager.
Michael said: “I’m looking forward to working alongside Ayrshire philharmonic, and to be audio describing my first musical.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to speak the descriptions instead of singing them along to the catchy melodies!”
Jessica Rodger, of Ayrshire Philharmonic Opera Society added: “The society are really excited about this year’s production.
“It’s been an amazing and equally hilarious few months at rehearsals and is sure to be yet another fabulous production for APOS.
“We can’t wait to tread the boards at the Gaiety once again and entertain the good folks of Ayrshire and beyond!”
‘ Betty Blue Eyes’ by Ayrshire Philharmonic Opera Society is on from the November 6 - 10 at 7.30pm, with audio description available on the 10th at 2pm.
Tickets, £ 15 - £ 21, can be purchased via Gaiety Box Office: 01292 288235, or www. thegaiety. co. uk.
