Remembrance Sunday has passed, but only for another year.

It’s the 100th year since the Great War ended and services all around the country were in place to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

But are the younger generation educated on the reasons behind Remembrance Sunday?

We hit the streets to find out the public’s opinion.

Blackney Chambers, from Ayr, who now stays in Surrey, said: “Where I live there are people doing more this year than ever, especially the younger people which is good.

of poppy displays which is pleasing.

“And now Southern Irish soldiers are being recognised too.”

Sandy Reid, of Ayr, said: “I know I certainly take it seriously - but I’m not actually sure about the younger generation.

“The services are done well in my opinion, so they should be though as the soldiers sacrificed so much for us.”

Martha Wyper, from Newmilns, said: “I don’t think younger people know enough, it’s another life for them.

“But the parades done near where I stay are very good.”

Kathleen Glynn, of Galway, said: “They don’t know much if they aren’t educated enough, but the services tend to be well done.”
