Make Some Noise

-

Ah the old Somerset noise debate.

How do you solve a problem like a quiet home atmosphere?

Other than the obvious answer of alcohol, it’s an ongoing issue on home turf at Ayr.

I’ve never been one for having any sort of criticism of our supporters.

We are undoubtedly lucky to have the fanbase we do.

On the road, we are the envy of most clubs at our level and many above.

But the grumbles of Ian McCall following Saturday are probably on the money.

It was eerily quiet for long spells, especially considering how packed the Somerset Road End was – and the size of the game.

When that end comes alive, it is as near to an extra man as you’ll ever get.

And as cliched as it may sound, it is capable of winning us many extra points this season.

This Saturday represents a chance for Ayr to go seven points clear at the top of the Championship.

A sentence none of us would have thought possible in our wildest dreams just a few short months ago.

This is pinch yourself time. Dundee United are undoubtely set to come like a freight train in the New Year.

But the more distance we can put between ourselves and the chasing pack, the more difficult it becomes to get caught.

And that’s what makes this Saturday one of the biggest games Somerset has seen in a long, long time.

Routine wins over K* llie in cup clashes have been marvellous occasions.

But we’re talking long- term impact if we do the unthinkable this year.

And the fans have a huge part to play this Saturday in a game we really must be winning if that dream is to become a reality.

Somerset has been a fortress so far this season.

If the fans can do their part and turn up the noise again this weekend, the points will be staying firmly in our bank.
