£ 3.9m for homes
Plans are well underway to create 26 properties on a prominent gap site in Ayr.
The £ 3.9 million plans will see a mix of 26 homes built on the former Whitletts Primary.
They will range from cottage flats through to townhouses facing onto Main Road.
The development is being funded by the Scottish Government’ s Housing Subsidy programme, South Ayrshire Council, and income generated from council tax levied on second homes.
Councillor Philip Saxton, the council’s portfolio holder for housing and community wellbeing said: “Generations remember the site as the old Whitletts Primary but the area’s being transformed.
“With the street line completed by flats the housing behind will make the best use of the available space, creating a safe, bright environment, while providing social housing which meets the needs of the local community.
“I look forward to welcoming the first people to their new homes this time next year. These are the latest in our pipeline of projects to create 1000 new affordable homes over a five- year period.”
To allow the project to proceed a block of four council flats on James Brown Avenue were demolished.
The three affected tenants have been given the option of returning to the new development once it’s been completed in September 2019.
