A mum who bit a teenage girl in the face during a violent attack has been granted a booze licence.

Kerry Carmichael, 37, of Cumnock, banged the 16- year- old teen’s head off a wall and dragged her by the hair in July last year.

She appeared before East Ayrshire Council’s licensing board applying for a personal licence so she could find work.

Po l i c e r e p o r t e d h e r crime to councillors sitting on the licensing board. Carmichael was convicted of assault and sentenced to a community payback order for the assault.

Councillors heard how Carmichael threw the girl on to a bed and sat on her.

During the attack, Carmichael also tore the girl’s clothes and grabbed her neck.

She told the board she hoped to find work after losing her previous job in a care home following the conviction.

Apologising for the crime, she said she “deeply regrets” the incident.

Carmichael, of Barrhill Road, said: “I have never been in any trouble in my life before.”

Blaming alcohol she claimed she hasn’t touched a drop since the assault.

She added: “Understandably I lost my job due to the conviction. I’m finding it hard to get back into work.”

The licensing board heard she had attended counselling since her court appearance at Ayr Sheriff Court.

Appealing to the board, she said: “I don’t drink anymore. “I am deeply sorry for my conviction.”

The licensing board adjourned the hearing to consider her fate and on return announced Carmichael’s personal licence would be granted.

Board chair Councillor Tom Cook described it as “a very serious incident.” He added: “A word of caution. Make sure nothing like this happens again.”
