Menace also spat blood in Carrick Street rammy
A thug spat blood and bit a police officer during a drunken rammy.
Greg Small, of Forglen Road in Dalrymple, admitted to assaulting PC Sandy McBreen on May 13 this year, on Carrick Street in Ayr by spitting blood in his face and biting him on the hand.
He also owned up to shouting and swearing.
The 30- year- old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.
Depute fiscal, Stuart MacMillan, explained: “At 11pm, police were requested to attend what was a largescale disturbance.
“They attended and noted a large number of people on the road.
“The accused was spoken to by the officers and was shouting and swearing and acting in an aggressive manner.
“Others were acting in a similar manner. The accused was told he was going to be arrested which in turn made him more aggressive.
“The officers noted he was bleeding from the mouth. The accused then spat in the face of PC McBreen.”
The court heard that officers came to the assistance of PC McBreen.
“The accused then bit PC McBreen’s hand,” Mr MacMillan added.
“The accused was eventually controlled and taken away. He refused to answer any questions.
“The complainer did not require medical treatment.”
Small’s defence solicitor said that he was out celebrating his birthday at the time of the incident, adding that he wanted to ‘ publicly apologise’ for his involvement.
Ian Gillies said: “Too much drink was taken and Mr Small’s memory of the events is hazy and he does not recall how he received his injury [ to his mouth].”
Sheriff Leslie, added: “With some hesitation, I will draw back from sending you to jail.
“Police officers were going to their normal job as you to would, where no one bites you or spits blood in your face.
“You will be confined to your home for four months.”
Small was ordered to pay a £ 300 fine and will be subject to a restriction of liberty order.
