Holyrood assurance on bypass

-

A bypass for Maybole is on track with a contractor expected to be named this month.

Peter Mason is chairman of the Maybole Bypass Committee and he went along with committee members Helen Whitefield, David Kil tie and Bill McCubbin, on a visit to Holyrood last week to meet Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity.

Mr Mason said: “We received assurances that the contract for the bypass will be signed this month and it will then be down to the contractor to announce the official start date.

“We also met with the Maybole Bypass project manager who gav e assurances that he will be consulting with us during the whole project.”

Mr Matheson said: “I was delighted to meet with the Maybole Bypass Committee this week, who have tirelessly campaigned for a bypass around the town of Maybole, and confirm to them that the project remains on track with a contract expected to be awarded for construction this month.”

Maybole MSP Jeane Freeman added: “It was really important to me that members of the Maybole Bypass Committee had the opportunity to meet Mr Matheson, not only to tell him in person of the hard work and persistence they and many others have shown over the past 22 years which was pivotal in securing the Maybole Bypass - but to also update him on the plans that have been put in place to revamp Maybole High Street once the bypass works commence.

“The Maybole Bypass Committee members past and present should be extremely proud of the work they have championed along with residents and businesses to improve their community, and which will be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Advanced vegetation clearance works have already started involving the felling and removal of all trees, hedges and undergrowth from the land acquired for the bypass.
