London’s calling for 50 pupils after rotary gift

-

Two members from Ayr Rotary club, Gus Iannotti and Ron Ireland went along to the wonderful new Ayr Academy to make a Treasure Chest presentation of £ 200 to help support an educational trip to London in February.

They were met by geography teacher Stephen Gilmour and four of the 50 pupils who will be going on the trip: Callum Smith, Fergal Holohan, Samantha Hay and Lauren Shelly.

The children explained that they would be visiting important London attractions including the

Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, and Wembley Stadium as well as joining a guided tour of London, taking in Buckingham Palace and the changing of the Guard.

For some light relief they will be going to a couple of shows: The LionKing and Matilda musicals.

As if all that wasn’t enough they will stop off in Liverpool, en- route for home, to visit the city’s Music Experience Museum.

Neither of the girls have been to London before and are “super excited” about the prospect.

For some pupils, it will be their first taste of life in a major city.

Stephen thanked Ayr Rotary Club for the welcome donation and said it would greatly assist in funding this important, educational trip.

The pupils will send a report to the club about their experiences and what they had learned.
