Have fun and raise money this festive Friday

- Staff Reporter

Are you ready to put your best foot forward for CHAS this Friday?

CHAS, Children’s Hospices Across Scotland, is asking all Scots to take part in Festive Footwear Friday to raise vital funds to keep the smiles on kids’ faces.

Slip into your festive slippers, shuffle to work in your sparkly shoes or rock your party socks – then donate just £ 2 to help this extraordinary charity.

CHAS know Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for every family and that includes those with children who may be facing their last festive season.

But with their two hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch, as well as home support services, CHAS help families enjoy a fun and laughter- filled Christmas, making memories that last a lifetime.

But it comes at a cost.

Just one day’s care in Robin and Rachel House is £ 5650 each and it costs CHAS £ 12,750 every day to provide care in hospices, homes and in hospitals.

You can help them reach their festive target, and have some fun at the same time on Friday.

Buzz Bingo have been supporting CHAS for around eight years and are on their way to raising £ 25,000 for CHAS.

They first got involved with CHAS because they saw first- hand the amazing support they offer to families when a member of staff’s daughter Samantha, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and spent her last days at Robin House before she died when she was just 10 years old.

Her mum Carol and staff at Buzz Bingo keep Samantha’s memory alive by fundraising for CHAS and 25 staff will be taking part in Festive Footwear Friday in total this week.

Kidz Town is a new role- play venue in Stirling, specially designed and built for children up to nine years old.

Owned by Jenn Stirling, her team of seven staff will be taking part in Festive Footwear this Friday and Saturday, along with the children and families who come along and play.

They plan to have activities throughout the day as well as bake biscuits with elves’ stockings on, which they’ll sell with all profits going to CHAS.

Kidz Town initially got involved with CHAS because their chef is part of the fantastic CHAS Stirling Starlings volunteer group. The group put on a fireworks display fundraising event at their home this November, which Jenn attended.

Inspired by what she had seen and learned about CHAS at the event, Jenn decided to get involved with CHAS and host her own fundraiser at Kidz Town.

She said: “Most of our staff have been affected by the loss of a child in some way, like most families have, and that’s why we felt we really wanted to get involved with CHAS and host our own Festive Footwear Friday.”
