Talk of the town from our social media

-

We told that a pensioner in Ayr was held up and the thug demanded £ 5000 to “release his wife”.

Roberta McGee said: “This is shocking and very worrying.

“These past few weeks we’ve heard reports of stabbings and possession of weapons in Ayr too.

“Thank goodness this poor man was unharmed.”

Fiona Wallace said: “This is terrible, what is happening to Ayr?”

Carrie O’Donnell said: “Glad the chap is okay.

“Ayr is getting beyond a joke with all these horrible things happening. Just hope they catch this guy so he doesn’t attempt to do it again.”

Christine McIlwraith said: “Don’t suppose any CCTV would be working?

“With the lack of police presence now a days it would be a good idea to have more working CCTV around town.”

We revealed that the security at Ailsa has been tightened following the stabbing at the addictions unit.

Margret Jones said: “Too late now; should have been years ago.”

Mags Kirkwood said: “Always the same. A& E staff were assaulted some years ago but it takes until now to correct faulty cameras etc.

“Glad there are steps being taken to keep the area safer.”

South Ayrshire Council could replace their dirty old signs with new ones.

Nick Larkin said: “In the ancient past, each summer, a student was hired and their job was to get in a Leisure Services van with a ladder, big bucket and sponge to go round and clean all the Council signs, all summer.

“They also had a pair of loppers to trim any foliage which was overhanging the signs.

“A system which was simple, cheap and effective.

“Probably not sophisticated enough for today, though.”

Ailsa Leitch said: “SAC now charge children to learn an instrument at school, in order to “save” £ 46,000, yet they are happy to spend £ 100,000 in order not to look shabby!

“I think some priorities are in need of examination.”

Steven Mackie said: “I think the old signs are perfectly fine.

“All they need is a proper clean and they’d be like brand new.

“Pointless wasting money when it’s not necessary.”

Louise Lauchlan said: “Yet another waste of taxpayers money. The signs are fine for now when there are many more pending problems in south Ayrshire they could be using the money for.

“For a council that claims it is so cash strapped it sure does like to spend what it doesn’t have!”

Darren Elliott said: “Who cares? 99% of the under 40s won’t even notice nor care. We should be cleaning up the town.”
