Ayr Bowling club strike medal haul

Jedi tenpin team scoop prizes in home town

The Scottish Tenpin Bowling Associatio­n ( STBA) National 4’ s was held at LA Bowl in Ayr, where teams from all over Scotland competed in this year’s junior bowling competitio­n.

Jedi bowling club stole the show, taking two gold medals and a bronze in this year’s event.

In the 21- point category, the gold medal went to Jedi bowling’s Jak Herbertson ( ranked No. 1 in Scotland and this year’s Junior Irish Open champion), David Waite, Gabby McLatchie and Campbell Gribben.

Also taking gold, in the 17- point division, were Jedi Bowling’s Daniel Masters ( Scotland internatio­nal junior bowler), Jack McDermott, Darren McLatchie ( Team Scotland junior bowler) and Jodie Gribben.

Youngsters in the 13- point category took an impressive bronze for the club: Kelsi Cuthbert, Megan Woods, DJ Alexander and Euan Dickie ( who bowled his highest game ever at the event).

The Jedi Bowling Club at LA Bowl, on Miller Road, Ayr, meet every Saturday morning at 10am, and Tuesday evening clubs run from 4pm and 6pm.

The first week is free for anyone who wishes to come along and have a go.

The club boasts Scotland’s top internatio­nal and national tenpin bowling coaches, who have been in the industry for decades.

The instructor­s are led by head coach James Claxton, who won last year’s South Ayrshire Council’s Coach of the Year award, and bowls as a Scottish internatio­nal bowler. There is also Alastair Kay, a level- 2 coach who has coached both English and Scottish junior national teams, proprietor Julia Claxton, who is an accomplish­ed bowler playing for both English and Scottish county and national teams, and Alannah McManus, a level- 1 etbf coach.
