Peter Leonard leaves club after 7- 1 humbling

Former SPL midfielder Paul Burns has been appointed as Cumnock’s manager.

The ex- Dunfermlin­e and Queen of the South player has been at Townhead Park since 2015, but this week he has been unveiled as boss after Peter Leonard parted with the club by “mutual consent”.

Leonard’s Cumnock were lying sixth in the Premiershi­p after a 7- 1 home defeat to LARGS, in which Scott Dindwoodie scored a consolatio­n.

Cumnock Secretary George Morton said: “Following a committee meeting, the club have parted company with Peter Leonard by mutual consent.

“Paul Burns has been appointed in his place with immediate effect.”

Burns’ first task will be a derby at home to GLENAFTON, who managed to stop the steam train that is HURLFORD with a 2- 2 draw.

Craig McEwan’s men were behind twice to a Ryan Caddis double, but a Leon Murphy effort went in off the post and Cameron Marlow strike in the dying seconds gave Glens an all important point.
