They could be moved to Ayr Hospital, sparking fears for the overnight safety of patients and staff at the Biggart.
A plan will see them shifted to Ayr to watch CCTV cameras from there.
A hospital’s night shift workers’ jobs are facing the axe, the Post can reveal.
Porters’ positions at the Biggart may be binned under a radical shake- up.
Health bosses are considering a plan to move the staff to Ayr Hospital.
Concerns have been raised over medical staff “feeling unsafe” if the move is approved.
It comes only weeks after the stabbing at Ailsa Hospital, where worker Donna Maxwell was knifed in the car park.
And the Post revealed that security cameras at more than one Ayrshire hospital do not work.
A source told us: “They are saying that the night time porters who sit at the front of the hospital and monitor the CCTV are going to Ayr Hospital.
“People are coming up from Prestwick and they are cutting through the car park when they are drunk.
“After what has happened recently at Ailsa Hospital it’s worrying.
“The porters don’t just watch the CCTV. They also help with the transferring of patients and the he oxygen.”
Sandy Agnew, NHS Ayrshire and nd Arran’s assistant director of clinical cal support services, said the porter jobs bs were being reviewed following a drop op in inpatients using the hospital.
He said there are currently three ee inpatient wards at Biggart Hospital. .
“Therefore, the requirement for r porter resource between 11pm and d 7am is being reviewed,” he added.
