200 words Junior clash ends in brawl

-

Troon’s defeat to Irvine Meadow at the weekend ended in a mass brawl.

Violence broke out as Meadow celebrated at the full- time whistle after their 2- 1 win, with punches and kicks flying between players in front of stunned supporters in the main stand.

Meadow say they have video evidence that proves an unprovoked attack on defender Jared Willet sparked the ugly scenes.

Troon midfielder Steven McCreadie was called in to referee Ross Menzies’ office and shown TWO red cards over an allegation of spitting which he strenuously denies.

Willet and Jordan McGuire of Meadow were sent off after the match.

Troon boss Kirkwood admitted the post- game scenes were unacceptable but insisted Meadow had to take some of the blame.

He said: “There’s nobody between the two dressing rooms who comes out this well.

“For me, it all comes from Brian McGinty. He came over to me at the end of the game and started mouthing off, calling me a moron and saying I didn’t know anything about football.

“I was quoted in another newspaper as saying they were the worst team in the league, but I actually said they were the worst team we had played at that point and I stand by that.”

Meadow boss McGinty said: “Troon are a disgrace. They showed us a complete lack of respect by calling us the worst team in the league. We had eight copies of the article pinned up.”

Scott Robertson, General Secretary for the SJFA West Region, said: “In these circumstances, we will write to both clubs for their observations and take it from there.”
