101 surgery to be disected into home

-

The sorry saga of Troon’s collapsed medical centre has come to a bizarre end.

The 101 practice was the biggest in the town and its closure sent 6000 patients elsewhere.

But it has failed to be given a new commercial use despite tens of thousands of pounds being chopped from the price.

Instead the ghost practice is being turned into a five bedroom house.

Dave Dewar, who led the campaign to save the surgery, said: “This is a sad day when a purposebuilt surgery will no longer be an asset to the town.

“It should never have been closed and its patient list dispersed.

“I am surprised there was not some form of commercial future for the building and very surprised it will become a house.”

Departing docs trying to cash in on their old building slashed the price by £ 50,000 to £ 350,000 when there were no takers after four months .

A public campaign to save it and incorporate the Portland Street building into the smaller Templehill Surgery failed.

Instead Ayrshire and Arran Health Board pumped £ 200,000 into the Templehill property.

The 3344 sq ft mothballed building has six surgery rooms and comes with 15 parking spaces.

George Templeton is the new owner of the property at 101 Portland Street.

He has told the council it will be a single residential dwelling.

His plans reveal no internal changes, with doctors’ rooms becoming bedrooms.

The old waiting room will become the lounge and the upstairs staff areas will become a hobby and games room.

The application is now being considered by South Ayrshire Council.
