A76 barrier given green light

-

A project to replace a temporary barrier on the A76 at New Cumnock Railway Station will go ahead next week.

TranServ Scotland, the operating company responsible for the management and maintenance of the trunk road network in south west Scotland, will commence the project on February 11 lasting for six weeks.

The scheme will see stabilisation work to the adjacent slope supporting the A76 road by widening it and replacing the partially collapsed wall with a new barrier system and remove the longstanding temporary barrier that is currently in place.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the works and two overnight closures to manage public road user and workforce safety will be needed with dates of these closures still to be announced.

Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP, Jeane Freeman said it has been a worry for residents in the area for some time and welcomed the new move.

“I have been pursuing this issue on behalf of New Cumnock residents since 2016 and I am delighted that a start date for this project has been agreed,” she added.

“This has been of concern to the road users of the A76 for many years and whilst there will be some temporary disruption, the improvements to this part of the A76 will be welcomed by all.”
