Dog owners told to clean up their act

activities.

Now officers are upping their patrol of the area and are urging owners to bin the mess as they risk receiving a fine.

A police spokesman said: “The Glebe playing fields are of particular concern.

“A lot of time and money has been invested in the area by the community to upgrade the facilities which include football and rugby pitches and a children’s playpark.

“The fact that local residents allow their dogs to use this area as a toilet then don’t bother to pick it up is both disgusting and unacceptable.

“Apart from the mess and potential health implications - these dog owners are breaking the law.

“Local officers will be targeting the area and may be patrolling in uniform or plain clothes.

“Anyone who is caught will receive a fixed penalty fine or alternatively, be reported to the procurator fiscal.

“The Glebe is overlooked by houses and I would urge anyone with particular concerns or information to call and report it either at Maybole police office or using 101.”

A council spokesman hit out at lpeople who don’t pick up after their dog’s foul in public.

He added: “It’s unacceptable to litter sports pitches with dog waste and owners are well aware of the potential health hazards posed to young children by not cleaning up after their pets.

“Dog fouling’s been illegal since 2003, and despite the risk of landing an £ 80 fine we know from experience that some owners are still letting people down.

“We work with communities to tackle dog fouling as part of the Respect South Ayrshire campaign and urge persistent offenders to start taking the issue as seriously as most people already do.”
