Talk of the town from our social media

It’s budget time at South Ayrshire Council and readers have strong views on where the millions should come from...

Peter Richards said: “Easy... go back to ONE Ayrshire council instead of three and save the six figure salaries of executives, directors and managers.”

Ron Har ris agreed: “I remember a time when councillors did not get paid. It was a couple of meetings a week in the evenings.”

And Julie Ward said: “Sack a load of the pen pushers, curb councillor expense bills and ban the continuous need South Ayrshire appear to have regarding new buildings.”

The Ayrshire Growth Deal is finally here but our loyal readers are remaining cautious on what impact the cash will have...

Willie Bone said: “Tourism besides, what has Ayrshire to offer that is not already available in hubs around Scotland’s seven cities?

“Ayrshire could offer parity with infrastructure links, but the upgrades required for road and rail may never happen!

“Maybole is now going to have its much needed bypass, but that took decades of hard work to achieve.”

Jock Mackie said: “Great news for Ayrshire. An investment of this size is brilliant... creating more jobs can only be a good thing.”

But Craig Murray said: “Let’s see some of the money making its way into the villages instead of it all being blown in Killie, Ayr and Irvine.”

Finally, our heartwarming story of nurse Rachel Cox donating her kidney to a stranger has won huge praise online.

Ryan McCluskey said: “Amazing gesture. Not all transplants go to plan as I lost my dad getting a liver transplant. This lady is phenomenal.”

George Ross said: “Well done Rachel Cox. A real life super hero.”

Audrey Gordon said: “Well done Rachel you are an inspiration.

“Have met you at several running events.”

Abby Cunningham said: “Amazing thing to do.

“The recipient must be overjoyed they no longer need dialysis - life changing. Wonderful lady.”

And Lisa Ggcross added: “What a lovely thing to do Rachel! Very kind!
