Wendy on wire for mum
A schoolteacher is steeling herself for the world’s tallest zipwire.
Wendy Williams is tackling the challenge to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease.
Her mum Jennifer Goodyear has been diagnosed with MND and Wendy is determined to support the fight for a medical breakthrough.
She will take on The Tyrolienne at the Val Thorens ski resort in the French Alps.
Wendy will fly on the zip at 60mph for nearly a mile at an altitiude of 10,500 feet ( 3230 metres).
She was supposed to fly through the air on Sunday but bad weather postponed it until later this week.
The 34- year- old is already at 85 per cent of her £ 3230 fundraising target on Justgiving.
Wendy, of Ochiltree, is a teacher at Wellington in Ayr. She said: “Though I am looking forward to the challenge, I’m not keen on heights so I have a mental barrier to overcome.
“My ever- so- lovely husband Gary also suggested that I try and ski as far as I can in one day, which is planned for this Friday.
“The MND charity is really important to my family and I and I’d love to be able to raise as much money as possible to help with the amazing work it does.”
Superfit Wendy is a member of the Bannatyne health club in Ayr and they have been helping her reach peak performance.
She has followed a personal training regime at the club and has organised a Body Attack class at the club to involve fellow members in the fundraising activities.
General manager Craig Pilgrim said: “We are all behind her. MND Scotland is a fantastic organisation.”
