Merc driver admits three motoring offences

-

A lawyer claimed his client didn’t know his driving licence had been revoked - for medical reasons.

Greig Reid, 25, admitted three motoring offences when he appeared in the dock at Ayr Sheriff Court.

Reid admitted driving carelessly in a gold Mercedes on July 6, 2018.

He further admitted driving his mother’s yellow Citroen without insurance, on July 16, 2018, And on the same date, he gave a false name to police.

Defence lawyer Ian Gillies said of the first incident: “He was in a hurry and probably driving faster than he should have been, back to his home.

“Mr Reid was unaware his licence had been revoked, for medical reasons.”

This incident occurred on the A713, near to its junction with Doonbank Crescent in Patna.

Reid is said to have driven at excessive speed, and encroached on the opposite carriageway.

This caused a police vehicle to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision.

On the second incident, Mr Gillies said Reid’s mother thought all three of her sons could use her vehicle.

“But because his licence had been revoked, the insurance was invalid.”

“He’s one of three brothers, and he gave his brother Bryce’s name to police. “But they knew it wasn’t Bryce.” This incident occurred at Hopes Avenue, Dalmellington, near to its junction with Gateside Road.

Mr Gillies said Reid, of Doonview Terrace, Patna, was employed as a motor mechanic, and a driving licence is essential to his job,

He said his client was about to see a doctor, and his medical condition shouldn’t stop him driving.

Sheriff Desmond Leslie imposed fines totalling £ 650 for the three offences, payable at £ 30 per week.

The sheriff also imposed eight penalty points on Reid’s driving licence.
