Paint classes go down a treat for school kids
Works of art help focus the mind
I feel happy when I do art, so I want to keep on doing it in the future
Samuel - P5
A pair of primary schools have turned to art to explore Mental Health Week.
On page 33 we told that the Little Art School visited Braehead Primary and Newton Primary in Ayr to help pupils increase their self- confidence through the power of painting.
The project is aimed at increasing creativity in children, therefore encouraging them to feel better in themselves.
And those at Little Art School reckon that this will lead to less mental health problems in the future, or it will at least give the future generation the confidence to speak up about what is troubling them.
Newton’s P5 pupil Samuel said: “I had fun over the few weeks we completed the course.
“I learned a lot, and I drew all kinds of things such as turtles, sharks and seahorses.
“I feel happy when I do art, so I want to keep doing it in the future.”
P2/ 3 pupil at Newton, Aleya, said: “It has been great fun doing these classes and I definitely want to keep it going.”
P4 pupil at Newton, Declan, said: “I feel happy when I paint, it has been fun.
“I painted sharks and fish, I loved doing all of them.”
And Lola from P3/ 4 of Braehead, said: “I feel confident when I paint - it’s great.”
