Staff say yip to active travel
“It’s a nice feeling to be part of the community.
“Cycling also gives me energy and a feelgood factor for my working day.”
Debra Driscoll has completed the led bike ride qualification and has worked herself up to cycling 10 miles to work.
She said: “Once I completed the course I went and bought myself a new mountain bike and started cycling round our local cycle routes.
“I then attempted to cycle to work, which is 10 miles away from my house.
“I managed it with no issues and realised I prefer to cycle on the roads so this led to me buying a road bike.
“This was the best decision I made. It is so much fun and is able to pick up more speed. It’s lighter so that the tough hills are that wee bit easier to get up.”
Kyrstin Cunningham said: “At the moment I don’t have the confidence to cycle to work due to the high volume of traffic on the main roads.
“However, through planning of safe routes it is certainly something I am considering both for my physical fitness and environmental impact.
“I have chosen to walk to the supermarket and local cafes during my lunch break instead of short car journeys, which certainly has a positive effect on my energy levels after lunch. “
The team are hoping their new initiative The Bike Hoose can get others out on two wheels and using their pedal power.
Kyrstin added: “We will shortly have access to affordable bike hire in Cumnock for both business and leisure purposes.”
