Prestwick waiting for last post to come from Cross

-

The countdown is on for the relocation of the post office in Prestwick.

The new service at Dasy Chain, 86 Main Street, will provide four serving positions, one of them screened.

And a new serving point will be provided for use at the retail counter and be available during shop opening hours.

Local residents and small business customers will be able to access mail services including special delivery, local collect and home shopping returns and make online banking cash deposits and withdrawals using a Post Office card account, send funds abroad using Moneygram, pay bills, order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.

The date for the relocation has not been confirmed.

Posters will be displayed in the present Prestwick Post Office at The Cross to tell customers when the move will take place.

Karen Bragg from Post Office said: “We are confident that this vibrant new- style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.”

In May The Post told how postmaster Stephen Cooper described the move as a “sign of the times”.

Stephen is currently preparing to make his last delivery from the Cross office, which opened in 1925.

But he has promised a bigger and bolder offering for the people of Prestwick.

Stephen, operator of the town post office since 2008, said market forces dictated his need to up sticks.

He said: “This is a sign of the times and what we want to do is grow and expand our offering for the town.

“We spent a significant five- figure sum renovating the current post office in 2013 but this represents an exciting chance to do even more.”

He added: “It’s certainly nothing for people to worry about, although you always understand why some people are uncertain of change.

“On the whole people have been very supportive so far and they understand our reasons for doing this.”
