Close call for pensioner pair
McCormack said: “As she came round the corner at the car park she sped round and smashed into the tractor.
“She just panicked, went for the brake and hit the accelerator.”
Although the car to likely be written off, the elderly pair escaped with minor injuries.
As a precaution they spent the night in Ayr Hospital but they have since returned to their home in Bishopbriggs with just cuts and bruises to show for the accident.
Gordon said: “She cut her nose because the airbag went off but luckily it was nothing huge.
“After the crash they got out the car and they were standing about. She was fine, just in shock, saying ‘ I can’t believe I’ve done this’.
“The walking wounded is how I would describe it.
“There was no damage to the tractor but she was driving one of those wee Fiat 500- type cars, a wee shoebox- size motor, so she smashed it up.
“I doubt we’ll see it on the road again because it wasn’t a new thing so I don’t think the insurance will repair it.
“But luckily nobody was hurt. He phoned me that night to tell me he’s fine.”
A police spokesman said: “Specialist road policing officers attended at the scene to investigate and as a result a 93- year- old female driver alongside her 82- yearold male passenger from Bishopbriggs were taken to Ayr Hospital accident and emergency for treatment and both were detained overnight for observations.
“The other vehicle involved had been stationary and unattended at the time with no other persons involved or injured.
“Police officers are not looking for any additional witnesses in relation to this incident at this time.”
