Find out how to make an Eco Brick from rubbish unsuitable for recycling - thanks to Isla aged 11.

Isla has written precise instructio­ns in a letter beside a box containing plastic rubbish in the foyer of Troon Library. Once made the Eco Brick is then recycled into suitable items to be used in the building trade.

An Exhibition – South with Scotia – will be open in Troon Library until July 20. This explains the background to Antarctic discovery and Troon’s strong connection with the all- Scottish expedition of 1902- 1904 led by Dr William Speirs Bruce. Entry to the Exhibition is FREE.

Summer Chess can be played every Saturday until July 27 from 10am until midday in the South Beach Hotel.

All ages and standards of ability very welcome to come along and have a game. Free entry.

Clyde Opera goes Doon the Water at Portland Church on Saturday July 20 at 7.30pm.

A variety of well known arias and duets will be performed, many from the opera Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the concert priced £ 10 which includes refreshmen­ts.

Christian Aid Week held recently raised the excellent sum of £ 8,305.45 from house to house collection­s and soup lunches at Troon Old Parish Church. The Troon Committee offer sincere thanks to all who contribute­d in any way to the raising of this sum which will go towards maternity services in Sierra Leone.

Scottish Country Dancing takes place every Monday evening in Troon Concert Hall and will continue until the end of August. The evening starts at 7.30pm. The cost for dancers is £ 5 with spectators paying £ 3. This includes refreshmen­ts. Music is from top Scottish Bands.

Members of the Troon Lifeboat Fundraisin­g Branch met with the staff of the Scottish Building Society in Troon to thank them for their donation of £ 250 to Troon RNLI.

Through their Community Charity of the Year programme, the Scottish Building Society is committed to supporting the communitie­s they operate in across Scotland and for 2019, the Troon Branch selected to support Troon RNLI lifeboat.

Treasurer of Troon RNLI Fundraisin­g Branch Urda Cotter said: “We are really grateful to be selected as the Community Charity of the Year by the Troon Branch of the Scottish Building Society for 2019. This donation will help the RNLI in Troon to save lives at sea.”

Troon RNLI Lifeboat Station is to stage an Open Day.
