Prestwick will get new cycle racks in the town after South Ayrshire Council agreed to release funding from their South Ayrshire Paths Initiative.

The plan is to install three bicycle racks at each of two locations in the town.

Suggested locations include outside the Post Office at the Cross, Boydfield Gardens near the phone boxes, outside the South Church or at the bottom of Gardiner Street.

A complaint was raised about the need for another controlled crossing at the Main Street end of St Quivox Road.

A statement from Prestwick North and Prestwick South Community Councils said: “Ayrshire Roads Alliance have indicated this should be raised through the relevant community councils and SAC elected members.

“After discussion it was agreed that feedback would be sought from the Prestwick community by featuring this idea in our Facebook pages and joint website and these will be updated shortly to gain responses.”

At their June meeting Prestwick South Community Council discussed in depth the potential merger of the town’s two community councils, which already work closely.

Office bearers from both met South Ayrshire Council to request information about the legal process and any implications.

Prestwick originally had just one community council until it decided to split into PNCC and PSCC.

The communtiy councils will have a joint stall at Prestwick Prom Day on Saturday, August 3.
