Bridge picture is fit for a future King
The work of a budding artist has been selected by Prince Charles to become a part of the renowned collection at Dumfries House.
Lois Burton, a student of The Royal Drawing School, undertook a week- long placement at the estate near Cumnock and produced a beautiful painting of a wooden bridge in The Rothesay Gardens.
The artwork was part of an exhibition of student work at the estate’s Morphy Richards Education Engineering Centre and was chosen by The Prince to be displayed in the Palladian country house.
The 19- year- old, from Clapham, said: “I still can’t quite believe that HRH The Prince of Wales selected my painting to be displayed at Dumfries House.
“It’s a huge honour and my mum will be so proud. It’s a great way to end my year at The Royal Drawing School.”
Daniel McAuliffe, head of foundation and young artists’ learning at The Royal Drawing School said: “Each year, a piece is selected for the Dumfries House collection.
“This year, we were fortunate to have The Prince of Wales in attendance and so he selected a piece for the collection himself.
“It’s a great boost for Lois and the students to receive recognition from the general public in the form of people buying their work.”
Home to the largest known collection of furniture designer Thomas Chippendale’s early work, Dumfries House remained untouched for 250 years before it was saved for the nation by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay in 2007.
It now operates as a tourist attraction and education hub, offering young people the opportunity to engage in learning experiences that promote confidence, personal development and training in real life skills.
The Prince’s Foundation, formed in April 2018 as a result of consolidation of Dumfries House Trust and other charities, is headquartered at Dumfries House.
