Nicholas proves love for Ayr with latest win

-

is out.

It was only the second time that Mike had booked Paul Hanagan to ride one of his horses and the former two time champion jockey excelled in a tight finish.

Mike also saddled old favourite Gworn in the race and although he finished sixth he ran well for a long time and could be ready to win again in the near future.

Irishman Johnny Levins is a young trainer who openly admits he loves coming to Ayr and I reckon he’ll be booking a season ticket on the ferry after saddling a double on the day which brought his track stats for the season to four wins from five runners.

The first of his latest successes came with Tai Sing Yehin in the six furlong handicap with the 100- 30 favourite always travelling well before scoring by a length from Jacobs Pillow.

Johnny’s double was completed when the 13- 2 chance Eleuthera battled on bravely in Book Direct At Western House Hotel Handicap to win by a neck from Macs Blessings.

Both horses were ridden by Donagh O’Connor, a young apprentice whose Ayr record is almost as good as hios trainer with five winning rides from seven mounts in 2019.

Donagh stands over six foot tall yet can do 8st 2lbs and is one of the most talented young riders I have seen in a while.

I am sure my old adage of Ayr form is good form will be applied to the two year- old Dick Datchery in the not too distant future.

This horse impressed greatly in winning the opening novice stakes just a few weeks after finishing fourth in a similar race at the track when he missed the break.

Although a bit more streetwise this time the David O’Meara youngster still looked green and will improve even on this showing.

He will step up in trip beyond six furlongs and is one for the notebooks. by Jim Goldie.

The main supporting race on the card is a marathon 2m 1f handicap and last year’s winner Question Of Faith will more than likely contest this again for trainer Martin Todhunter.

This horse has been struggling for form of late but hasn’t really had the ground to suit and should be ready to run a big race.

The card opens at 2.00pm with a five furlong novice race and look for some big stables being represented here with Richard Fahey, Keith Dalgleish, David O’Meara and Mark Johnston all likely to have runners.
