A new 38- acre leisure park is planned at Gadgirth Mains, near Annbank. Developer Iain Hendry gains outline planning consent, and says the project has the potential to become a ‘ jewel in the crown’ of tourism in Kyle and Carrick. Consent comes after a councillors’ site visit, as there had been objections. Stringent conditions will be placed on the park, which will feature caravans, log cabins, and riverside and woodland walks.

Police in Ayshire will get tough with litter louts, says Chief Constable Quintin Wilson, after a big increase in complaints from the public. These range from cigarette packets discarded in the streets to large items of furniture dumped in the countryside. Mr Wilson states: “In the past, police have frequently warned offenders, but it seems that firmer measures are needed, and I have accordingly issued instructions to the police to taker a much stronger line under the Litter Act.”

Cheering crowds welcome home Girvan’s soldiers and sailors. The returning heroes muster on Stair Park, after the assembly is sounded by Bugler Lyons. Then the pipe band, under Pipe Major J. McCreath, leads the soldiers and sailors to the McMaster Hall where they are greeted by Provost Smellie, magistrates and councillors. A splendid dinner is served by Mr P. Andreoli of Girvan’s Carlton Restaurant. Provost Smellie proposes a toast and expresses a town’s grateful thanks.
