Ayrshire bowlers land a triple
Ayrshire bowlers struck triple gold at the Bowls Scotland National Championships at Northfield.
Soaring temperatures turned to rain on Saturday afternoon but soggy conditions didn’t deter Auchinleck’s Hannah Smith and Claire Johnston who won the ladies pairs, beating Dumfries in the final.
Cumnock’s Jean Sykes, Margaret Bingham, Linda Bryce and Heather Kay lifted the ladies over 55 fours, beating Denny 12- 9.
Gold also went to Townholm’s Grant Hamilton, Cameron Wilson and Drew Boyd who beat Melrose in the gents triples.
Cumnock’s William McKenzie reached the quarter- finals of the gents singles before losing 21- 17 to eventual champion Gordon White ( Aberlady).
Ayr Craigie were quarter- final fallers in the gents pairs, losing 1513 to Eddlewood.
Cumnock’s David Jagodowski, Calum Hunter and James Gibson reached the semi- finals of the gents triples before a 14- 10 defeat to Melrose.
The ladies singles went to Margaret Letham ( Burnbank Hamilton) who beat Kirsty Sinclair ( Polmuir) 21- 16.
The gents junior singles was won by Jason Banks ( Inverurie) while Megan Kivlin ( East Lothian Co- op) took the ladies equivalent.
Ayr Craigie’s Louise Noon, Jan Docherty, Liz Nelson and Anne Brown reached the semi- finals of the ladies fours before losing 22- 16 to Alloa East End.
Bronze also went to Howard Park’s Stephanie Bell and Shona Blackwood in the ladies pairs and Darvel’s Stacey Wylie in the junior singles.
Garry Hood ( Mauchline) won silver in the physically disabled B7/ 8 category in the Para Bowls Championships.
