Tee up Thommo

-

Thomas Donovan reckons his first ever four goal haul is a sure sign that Whitletts are on the march.

Peter Leonard’s men destroyed Troon 5- 1 at Portland Park on Monday night to book a League Cup quarter- final trip to Auchinleck on Monday, August 26.

It was a perfect birthday present for Vics, 75 years to the day since they played their first ever match, a 2- 2 draw with Ayr Newton Rovers.

Sean Ewart struck a late fifth while Troon’s only comfort came from Evan Maley.

Hero Donovan said: “It was a great team performance, one of the best we have had this season.

“I know the season has pretty much just started, but everyone seems just to be clicking together.

“Troon are a good team and are a league above so a result like this is pretty surprising.

“It’s the first time I have scored four for Whitletts, I have scored three and stuff before, but not four although I could probably have had five or six.”

On Saturday, Whitletts entertain Cumbernauld while Troon host Clydebank.

AUCHINLECK bid to make home advantage pay in the William Hill Scottish Cup when they face Dundonald Bluebell in a replay.

Talbot needed a late penalty from Graham Wilson to salvage a 2- 2 draw. Keir Samson’s early goal was overturned by two goals in two minutes but after Gordon Pope had a spot- kick saved and was then brought down, Wilson showed the way.

Auchinleck bounced back on Monday to beat Kello 3- 0 in the League Cup with goals from Dwayne Hyslop, Hamish McKinlay and Jamie Glasgow.

GIRVAN crushed St Cuthbert Wanderers 7- 1 to book a William Hill second prelim round tie at home to Broxburn.

Alex Bell led with a hat- trick, Craig Harvey grabbed a double while Dylan Thirtle and Robert Love also scored. On Saturday, Girvan visit East Kilbride.

GLENAFTON have a tasty Premiership clash at home to Rutherglen. Findlay Frye’s first- half goal earned a 1- 1 draw at Benburb.

Glens had Craig Pettigrew sent off in a 1- 1 midweek draw at home to Irvine Meadow who cancelled out Kyle McAusland’s goal with a Darren Jones header.

CRAIGMARK head to Kilsyth in the Championship after losing 4- 2 at home to Cumbernauld. Iain McCreadie and Greg Vernon got ‘ Mark’s goals.

KELLO, who beat Carluke 2- 1 in League One, host Port Glasgow.

In League Two, ANNBANK bid to follow a 3- 2 win at Vale of Clyde when they entertain Newmains. Mitchell Ewing’s double and a strike from Euan Smith won it for Bankies who finished with nine men after a trialist was sent off and Jack Taylor was injured.

MAYBOLE, who beat Saltcoats 3- 0 in midweek, travel to Yoker. LUGAR head to St Anthony’s while MUIRKIRK visit Saltcoats.
