Fraser to open up

Singer, songwriter and actor Fraser Nimmo opens the autumn season of Ayr Folk Club.

He takes to the stage at the Ayr Ex Services Club in Academy Street this coming Tuesday, September 3.

The folk club’s Pat Lappin said: “The club is proud and privileged to present Fraser Nimmo.

“Expect a humorous presentati­on, belying wellcrafte­d serious songwritin­g.”

The time is 7.15pm for 8pm, tickets on the door £ 9, to reserve tickets call 263537. S c o t l a n d ’ s profession­al touring opera company Opera Bohemia, returns to Ayr with one of the world’s best loved operettas.

Franz Lehár’s ‘ The Merry Widow’ is based on an 1861 play. The comedy operetta concerns the very wealthy lady Hannah Glawari.

Being recently widowed, multiple suitors fight and squabble to win her hand – and a share of the fortune. Throughout the Grand Duke’s birthday party ball, many suitors dance, attempt deals, sabotage each other and hilariousl­y unravel secrets about one another’s lives.

The production will showcase some of Scotland’s finest young profession­al talent, including Catriona Clark, Douglas Nairne, Marie Claire Breen and Andrew McTaggart. John Wilkie directs a magical new production designed by Alisa Kalyanova and the per f o rmance is accompanie­d by pianist Andrew Brown and violinist Dániel Mészöly. ‘ The Merry Widow’ is full of iconic and stunning Viennese melodies, including show stopping numbers like ‘ Viljah’, ‘ The Merry Widow Waltz’ and ‘ Chez Maxim’s’.
