WE WILL NOT BE BULLIED

-

value. The Leadership Panel Meeting ( LP) was here to approve the SAC funding of £ 200,000. Previously they had intimated that there would be no Ayrshire Golf Trust ( AGT) cost to SAC.

Our principle objections are the two new golf holes to be built on the Old Racecourse ( OR) and secondary, the start- up contribution and ongoing maintenance costs to essentially aprivate trust company with no past track record. The principal trustee has negative equity in the Trust fund and is relying on further contributions. Figures show nationally that golf participation has decreased even more than the outdated figures shown in the ( BP). The meeting continued with each councillor in turn praising the work of the AGT without any concerns for the objections.

Not one question arose concerning the presented ( BP). Incredibly, this proposal was rubber stamped. A large chunk of our money will now be taken away for the time being with the public being short changed and out of pocket to fund a project that is not needed and takes from the Common Good Land, CGL. Well, what now? It’s your turn to step up to the plate. Many of us have looked after your interests and spent many hours on your behalf protecting your CGL. This was last done when the proposed grammar school on the ( OR) was kicked into touch by you in 2005. Your chance to object to this land grab in the coming consultation to preserve your parents’ legacy and hopefully your children’s.

The ( OR) is for any temporary activities, sport or otherwise and even cricket. You could lose half of it with two permanent golf holes for a few users of a golf range in comparison to everyone in Ayr who has a right to use the whole ( OR).

If you don’t object then the land will no longer be yours but rather the council’s for golf only. Let’s not have them bully us, always remembering that youngsters of any means, backgrounds and locality can play together, having fun and attend the circus when in town.

As a former Mainholm Academy pupil, I stand for fairness, proper process and things that are simply just right. You are not depriving youngsters of trying golf or golf lessons, as there is already a golf academy signposted before Coylton where all the facilities and more are already in place. Along with North Gailes, Troon and Turnberry they cover the whole of South Ayrshire.

Just beyond Coylton you can also experience fresh water fishing with your kids and enjoy a restaurant overlooking the ponds and all close to three high schools.

Following the consultation, we then have to convince the sheriff that this land belongs to us all and not just golf and hopefully, with your overwhelming help, we can send them packing.

We must stop these repeat performances happening again. Grateful for your online objection when it comes.
